Portal Gun is Done!

Finally finished the portal gun. :) Took me probably 40+ hours, but I really like how it turned out. Starting with the barrel, it started as cut PVC Pipes. I then filled the area between the two pvc pieces with foam pieces and bondo, then sanded the crap out of the thing. The shells were a bit more intensive, starting with gluing layers of pink foam together. I carved the rough shape with a hack saw, cleaned it up with a kitchen knife, and then sanded it to the curved shape you see. A layer of gesso, then a layer of bondo, filling the pock marks with spackle, and a final paint layer later, and the shell looks how it is now, and is a great deal more durable then the foam itself. The claws are thin plastic bolted together, and there are some other oddball parts that add the detail to the gun. I also added LEDs into the gun, both orange and blue, so the whole thing lights up. Anyways, here's some pictures, enjoy! If you've got any questions about the process, feel free to leave a comment.

New Computer Parts!

So, more stuff going on over here. Taking a quick break from the Portal Gun project I've been working on for a couple weeks now, I managed to find some time to install the new heatsink into my computer. Don't know if it's big enough, but any bigger and it wouldn't fit in the case. Speaking of cases, hopefully going to start on the Jurassic Park case mod I've been designing for a couple months. I've been collecting components, and will begin the case within a week or so. Anyways, here's some pictures of the new heatsink as well as pictures of my current case for those that haven't seen it yet. Enjoy!

The new Heatsink. P lease ignore the messy cables, it was my first attempt at wire sleaving

Neo, in all his glory.

Portal Gun WIP

Sorry for the long hiatus, I've been busy finishing a new project. One of my friends decided to go as Chell to Kumori con this next week, and I've been scrambling to get the portal gun done she commissioned. I've gotten pretty far in the short amount of time I've been working on it, and it's looking really good. I'll be sure to post lots of finished product pictures when I'm done, and I'll update with pictures of the cosplayer for the full effect!

From the Painting Table: Tactical Squad and some Artwork

Finally finished the first half of the tactical squad (Minus basing, of course). They turned out nicely, I think. Very clean, and I'm really happy with how the scripture on their shoulder pads and purity seals looks. For these, I tried painting a lot quicker then I normally would. I had them finished within a week (from base coat to finished paint job)

The process for these is fairly straightforward: Basecoat Averland Sunset (did this with an airbrush, made the whole thing a lot faster), wash with Seraphim Sepia, layer Yriel yellow, layer Flash Gitz yellow, then hightlight with a 50/50 mix of the Flash Gitz and Skull White. Then, fill in details. Anyways, enjoy!

I also recently started a new art project. I plan on doing a large butterfly collection (done with metalwork) in a shadowbox I found upstairs. There will probably be about 20 butterflies, all different, by the time I'm done. I finished the first yesterday. Enjoy!

From the Painting Table: Vanguard Vets, Captain and Tactical Squad WIP

So, been a while since I've posted any 40k stuff, so here's a large update on what I've been doing. So, the first thing I've finished in a while has been my squad of Vanguard Vets. Been working on them for quite some time, and finally put the finishing touches on them. They've been reposed, added bits, and yes, the sergeant has terminator lightning claws. :)

Some other stuff I've been working on include the captain for my army (reposed, added tons of bits, and fully magnatized) and a combat squad, which is just about finished.

As usual, thanks for reading, and comments are greatly appreciated. :)
